Update in response to the company’s reply:I would like to clarify a few factual points. My written contract does not state that drip edge was “excluded.” I have reviewed the agreement, and there is no clause indicating that drip edge would not be installed. I also verbally requested drip edge at the time of booking. The contract specifies that weather shield would be replaced where needed. It was not. When I contacted the owner directly to resolve these concerns, I was told that if he inspected the roof and found it to be fine, I would be charged $500. He later stated he was “just giving my dad a hard time.” I did not find that appropriate or professional.I was also told that drip edge is uncommon in Thunder Bay. Regardless of regional practices, my concern is that I requested it and expected the work to reflect both the contract and standard roofing practices.I am currently experiencing water coming through to the soffit, which has only increased my concern about the missing drip edge and overall installation details. My intention in leaving this review is not to be confrontational, but to provide accurate information for other homeowners making significant financial decisions. I attempted to resolve this directly with the company prior to posting the original review.I stand by my experience.Dykstra Knight refused to intsall drip edge on my new roof. I requested it, and my understanding is that is required by code in Ontario. Either way, I found them unprofessional and rude. When my father spoke with the owner, he told him he would charge me 500$ if he came to inspect the job and found it to be fine. I mean, the drip edge is not there... when I spoke to him, he said he as just giving my dad a hard time because he's "old" and "didnt know the right words for things". My dad is francophone, 76 yrs old, and his family owns a construction business in Montreal area. The owner then told me , "yeah, this isnt Southern Ontario, its Thunder Bay, most of the houses dont have drip edge". I guess because we are in Thunder Bay, we are supposed to accept that contractors will do subpar work? It was pretty awful, and as a single mom, I have to say that there are few trustworthy contractors out there. This is not one. I went to Home Hardware to purchase the material for drip edge (12 dollars or so for about 10 ft). I told them the contractor had refused to install and they were shocked.... Perhaps my fault that I didnt realize it had to be specified in the contract, I assumed it was a given that work would be to code, and I verbally requested it when I booked the work. And even if Im wrong and its not required for code, any basic google search will support the fact that its the right thing to do. Anyway, Im glad for those who had a good experience, but that definitely was not the case for me.
Ken and Jessie from Dykstra Knight came by today after the storm to remove a tree from my roof and patch up holes while I wait for my insurer to contact me. They arrived promptly and were very professional and adept at removing debris. They were also helpful in guiding my wife and I through the ordeal. I would highly recommend their services to anyone in need. I hope they return to make more permanent repairs once our claim is approved.
We just had our roof, garage and shed reroofed. Great job! Looks wonderful. The crew was friendly and polite. The clean up was very well done making sure no nails were left for our pet to step on. The young lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and patient in helping us pick out a colour and type of shingle. Thanks for a stress free experience and prompt service!
AMAZING service!! Had 5 of our rental properties with leaking roofs within one week and Dykstra was on site super-quick. Cleared off all affected areas. Provided before & after pictures. Everyone at this company is very professional and you can tell they genuinely care. Very reasonable prices too. We also use them for new roof installs during Spring/Summer. Highly recommend!
Dykstra Knight Roofing did a great job replacing the shingles on our roof. From the initial call and quick quote, to the final moments of the job they were friendly, hard working and professional. Our roof took a week to complete with the crew working full days. The weather wasn't great during the job, and they worked carefully to ensure the "under" roof was never exposed to the rain (and snow). The clean-up was very good. Our roof looks beautiful with its new shingles. I would hire them again, and recommend them for your roofing job without hesitation.
